Effect of water exercise on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Autumn and winter are the seasons with high incidence of chronic respiratory diseases, Chronic respiratory disease (CRD) is a chronic disease that affects the airway and other structures of the lungs. Among more than 20 diseases and diseases, the most common is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (hereinafter referred to as COPD), asthma and respiratory allergy. In 2016, these diseases caused 3.8 million deaths, accounting for 9% of the total deaths of non communicable diseases and 7% of the total deaths worldwide. 75% of these deaths occurred in people aged 30-69, indicating that CRD is not just a problem for the elderly.

Knee osteoarthritis is a chronic degenerative disease widely occurring in middle-aged and elderly people, which brings huge physical pain and heavy social and economic burden to patients. In recent years, exercise therapy has been widely used in the first-line treatment of knee osteoarthritis because of its safety, effectiveness and economy. This paper reviews the research progress of exercise therapy for knee osteoarthritis, mainly including the types and clinical effects of exercise therapy, and introduces the possible mechanism of exercise therapy from the aspects of biomechanics and molecular biology.
